I was asked the question a couple of weeks back as to whether or not I thought that prescription wrinkle cream would be a more effective alternative to an over the counter formula. What I found out about these formulas did not really surprise me, because I sort of had a feeling as to what I would discover before I started. I have to tell you that these prescribed medications are more effective than most of the formulas that you can buy in stores. Prescription wrinkle cream is more effective because it relies on the use of proven clinical studies confirming the effectiveness of various natural compounds in combating wrinkles to at least some extent. The typical anti wrinkle treatment that doctors prescribe contain vitamin E, Tretinoin, Hydroxy acids, and retinol, which is also known as vitamin A.
The over the counter formulas will most often offer you simple collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid formulas, with the goal being to replace your lost tissue by direct introduction into the skin. The reason that these formulas will not give you the results you might expect is because none of these compounds are absorbable when topically applied. These formulas doom you to failure.
While I say that the prescription wrinkle cream will offer you more benefit than the over the counter formulas do, that does not mean that they are the answer that you are looking for. While vitamins E and A are good choices as ingredients due the fact that they contain antioxidants, they are rarely used in their purest forms. Tretinoin and hydroxyl acids dominate the field of most commonly used ingredients.
The reason that this is not a good thing is that both are synthetics, and each comes with its own list of dangerous side effects. Synthetics are not the answer for treating your skin, because they cannot give you what pure, all natural compounds can. This is why your antioxidants should come directly from plant-derived ingredients, so that the full antioxidant effect is achieved.
